New Campaign Urges Audiences to 'Go Inside Film, Get Outside Yourself'
SEATTLE - May 5, 2010 - Convince Pacific Northwest residents to trade a few hours of glorious early summer weather for a dark movie theatre? Just remind them that a good film has the power to emotionally transport them somewhere else, beyond their everyday lives in Seattle to a new, uncharted time and place.
This month, marketing ideas agency WONGDOODY urges audiences to "Go Inside Film, Get Outside Yourself" in its newest integrated campaign for the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), the country's largest and most attended film festival. With more than 450 feature films and shorts from nearly 70 countries, SIFF boasts a highly diverse portfolio of material, so that every festival attendee who enters a movie theatre will find an escape from the ordinary. Now in its 36th year, SIFF will begin May 20 and run through June 13.
WONGDOODY's new "Inside Out" campaign includes TV, print and online executions, plus a 60-second in-theatre trailer and 15-second bumpers. Featuring animation by Seattle-based production company Oh, Hello, the TV and trailer take viewers on an out-of-body journey through myriad situations, environments and characters that represent the broad scope of movie genres that await them inside the theatre. The trailer was made with an infinite zooming technique that pulls viewers through a never-ending world of famous and obscure scenes from SIFF films. Both the audio and visuals combine clips from previously screened SIFF films.
The SIFF poster and print ads convey a similar feeling of entering the world of films and being in a place that's unexpected, special and outside the everyday. Portland-area artist Aaron Piland of APAK Studio worked with the WONGDOODY team to create the custom illustrations, which provided the visual foundation for much of the campaign.
"We worked with the amazing team at SIFF to come up with a campaign that would be inventive enough to attract cinema buffs and approachable enough for people who aren't necessarily film enthusiasts," said Tracy Wong, WONGDOODY chairman and executive creative director. "This campaign is all about reminding people that a good film is a terrific way to get outside of their usual routines, and temporarily immerse themselves in something new and different. A good film can strike a nerve, shock or inspire them."
