As you head south out of town on State Route 28, just before you reach Oasis Park there is a large purple billboard that has the whole state talking.

Western Governors University (WGU), a non-profit online university has put up a billboard — the only billboard of its kind in the state — advertising their school programs.

"It's a tongue-in-cheek thing," explained Lori Bawden an executive assistant for the Utah-based school. "We picked Ephrata because it's the middle of Washington."

PORTLAND, Ore. — A commercial that John Spencer shot for Portland Timbers sponsor Alaska Airlines has gone viral this week, and is offering the world a peak into the head coach’s sense of humor.

The commercial, the first in a series called “Alaska Airlines/Portland Timbers Employee Exchange,” shows Spencer barking instructions on an intercom to a very confused group of airline passengers.

Some marketers are diving into the world of social media headfirst with a well-planned social media strategy and careful implementation, yet even more are wading in with little knowledge and even less conviction. According to Forrester, 72 percent of marketing professionals currently employ or plan to employ social media in the next 12 months. Still, Forrester finds that 78 percent of clients don’t believe their lead agency does digital well.

Luxury Brands Remain Aloof on Facebook

Luxury goods consumers, it turns out, want to connect online with their favorite brands, but these marketers keep engagement to a minimum—and apparently for good reason.

Research by advertising agency Wong, Doody, Crandall, Wiener, given exclusively to Adweek, shows that while consumers flock to the Facebook pages of luxury labels listed in the recent Interbrand’s 2010 Best 100 Global Brands report, these brands are mostly unresponsive. In most cases, they do not even allow fans to post on the brand’s Facebook pages.
